Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba, his goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury. Aikido is often translated as "the way of unifying (with) life energy or as "the way of harmonious spirit". Aikido's techniques include: irimi (entering), and tenkan (turning) movements (that redirect the opponent's attack momentum), various types of throws and joint locks.
Riai Aikido Tauranga has been created to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Aikido through kinesthetic, aural and visual teaching methods, and also physical and mental agility through challenging exercises and techniques. A student training in Aikido develops at his or her own pace, level of fitness and understanding, so no previous martial arts training is required. It will develop calmness, peace of mind, suppleness and fitness while learning an efficient self defense tool. Above all we aim to make the learning of Aikido interesting and fun.
