Monday Morning Blues

The Monday morning blues and how to beat them

We all feel the bite of Monday morning, well most of us do, i imagine lotto winners and those lucky few who seem to permanently be on holiday probably escape the feeling of impending doom… OK, maybe thats a slight dramatisation, but you catch my drift….

I suspect deep down this feeling is fuelled by the loss of the weekends freedom combined with the ever swirling questions brewing in our subconscious. “what are we doing here, what is the point of it all, does anybody really care and what am i going to have for lunch”.

Seeing as though Monday and in most of our cases WORK aren’t going anywhere here’s a few tips that may help soften the blow…. and no, i want be telling you to find a job you love so you never have to work a day in your life rubbish… Congrats to those who have managed to do that though by the way… “Go you!!”

  1. Go to bed early Sunday night. You may or may not have had a huge weekend thats beside the point. The fact is if we are well rested the world just ain’t that bad a place. The birds seem to chirp a little louder the sun shine’s a little brighter and our brain leans toward the “ah, things ain”t so bad” side of things..

Not to mention a whole world of well noted science proving you will be a better human if you sleep.

2.   Get out of bed early and WORKOUT. What!!! I know right… you probably think clinging to sleep to the last possible minute is a good thing right?. Well sorry to disappoint but NO. It creates the perfect breeding ground for “Rush” and “Panic” these two are obviously not your friends. especially not first thing Monday morning.

By getting up and getting a workout done you will have not only done something great for your body, you will kick your day into gear and have accomplished something most people will spend the rest of the week lying to themselves about doing.

I’m not going to lie, there is a mild sense of “I’m better than you” as you pass the other minions on their way to work knowing that you have already conquered the weeks first challenge.

So get up, get the heart rate up and let life fill your veins!

3.   Prepare for Monday on Friday. Knowing what that you have something to do and are needed some where can help banish the Monday morning malaise. It will give you a sense of focus (yes even if its something crap). If you’re smart however you will try your hardest to make it something good or even better fun! to do.

4.   Eat some good food, save your pennies and hit your favourite coffee shop if that your thing (this can be a great way to get some social connection into the start of your week) or if cooking is your thing give your self the time to make something amazing for lunch…. Food, mmmmmm food. Food can make anything better!

There are always life changes we can make to try to enhance our living experience. The challenge is to find what works for you. And remember Mondays need not be forever blue :( they may actually turn out to be your favourite day.
