Strong Families through training together

Martial Arts builds strong families

Over many years I have studied a variety of Martial Arts so when my sons friend Jamie, told us about Chen Wu Kuan Shaolin Kung Fu, I thought this would be great for my kids. After reading Sifu Rays’ qualifications and being impressed with his history, my kids started Kung Fu in 2007. Kasey was 9 years old, Erika was 7 and Joseph was 5. We wanted them to learn the discipline of a Martial Art as well as learn the confidence to protect themselves in an increasingly violent society. My wife and I were both bullied when we were young, and wanted our children to be able to deal with what life may throw at them, with self-confidence from a young age. We went along to have a look at one of Sifu Rays’ classes and were keen to involve ourselves.

After almost 9 years, my children have developed co-ordination, balance, strength and the ability to protect themselves using their martial art skill, carefully taught by Sifu Ray, Elizabeth and Robert Smith. Their perseverance and constant repetition, encouraged by our instructors, has allowed them to achieve strength and a self-confidence they would not otherwise have had. We are grateful for the wonderful and experienced instructors they have, who pushed them and challenged them to be where they are now. Currently Joseph has a red belt four tags (Junior Black Belt). Not many have achieved the whole range of grades in the junior belts and this shows his dedication. Erika and Kasey have a purple belt one brown tag (3 grades away from black belt) and with their continuing persistence they will achieve their goal.

Having done other Martial Arts I couldn’t help but to involve myself over the years and became an Assistant Instructor, and my two girls, with help at times from their brother, now instruct the junior class on a Friday afternoon at TMAA.

The TMAA is a great place to train with my family. We enjoy our Chen Wu Kuan Kung Fu and believe that a family that train together, grows together.

Editor’s note.

Come on parents – don’t just sit on the sidelines, join in the martial art that your kids enjoy and grow together.  They will thank you for it.
