No one helps mum being attacked by stranger

Mrs Praveet Singh was left with fractured eye sockets, broken nose…
What is the world coming to? On Jan 16th, in a suburban Auckland street, a mum out for her evening walk was viciously attacked by a random stranger. That is not the shocking part, what out raged me was that several residents who witnessed the assault did nothing to help her. One continued to wash his car, and others just watched doing nothing.
The reasons given by the neighbours included that they were in poor health, they didn’t want to be done for assault themselves, they didn’t want to get involved for fear of repercussion as the aggressor would know where they lived, and they thought it was a domestic.
Unbelievable. Incroyable as the French would cry!
Is this where society is now? We turn a blind eye to unprovoked violence even if it is right in front of us?
Okay, so not everyone is skilled in a martial art, or has been on a self defence course. If not, you should, but that is another topic . Even if you were a small female you could have made some noise, “Stop, I’m calling the police”.
Would I have jumped in? Sure I would have and I would have got someone to phone the police before getting stuck in. Get someone to film it too on their smart phone.
Yes, I have confidence in my abilities to defend myself, but even if I was not a seasoned Taekwon-Do instructor I could not stand by and do nothing. Where was these bystanders’ sense of integrity? Did not even one of them possess an ounce of a bravery gene? Or were they so scared by the outburst of violence that they froze from fear and were rendered incapable of helping.
The last reason I can forgive, anything else is just selfish cowardice.
It is sad that it is unsafe to go for a walk around our neighbourhood, even sadder that the neighbours would not help you if you got attacked. C’mon people go on a self defence course or learn a martial art. Just don’t be so pathetic.
