Lets face it, learning how to defeat an opponent with the Broad Sword or Bo (long staff), is just plain cool. I have spent a life time watching martial arts movies and weapons have always held a fascination for me. I have been begging Sifu Ray Smith to run an introductory course in weapons for years, and his answer has always been the same " we don't train weapons unless you have trained Shaolin Kung Fu for at least 2 years", but.... finally he has agreed, sooooo... Beginning April 2nd at The Martial Arts Academy Sifu Ray Smith 8 Degree (dan) black belt (Kung Fu), will offer an Introduction to Weapons Course over 4 consecutive Saturdays. Running from 10.30am - 11.30am on April 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd. These classes will act as an introduction to Kung Fu, and the use of both short and long weapons, and yes you will get to wield a sword. You will learn a basic history of Kung Fu, the origins and application of the short stick, the Broad Sword and the Bo (long staff). Week 1: Introductory to the short stick, application, technique and partner drills. Week 2: Introductory to the Broad Sword , application, technique and partner drills. Week 3: Introductory to the Bo (long staff), application, technique and partner drills. Week 4: Review all weapons and introduction to Chen Wu Kuan Kung Fu All attendees will receive a course T-Shirt, and get to keep their short sticks with which to continue practicing their fundamental drills.
