This childrens Muay Thai/kickboxing event is for novices, children who have never competed in Muay Thai or kickboxing before, or only competed 1-2 times. There will be four event types, light contact sparring, power kick, power punch and shadow boxing. For sparring the children will be fully padded wearing 10oz gloves, shin guards, mouth guards and head gear. Competitors will be bracketed by weight and experience. They will compete on a matted floor, only the finals will be contested in the ring. The bouts will be light contact, and the medalists will be decided through a knock out tournament format. The power kick will be measured on a force meter kick shield, and the power punch will be determined by distance of knocking a pad. Shadow boxing is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge of technique in a non contact format. This event is open to all children in Tauranga and by club invitation only for clubs outside Tauranga. Entry Fee for 1 skill is $15, 2+ is $20.
